A merry band of Smoot Hill runners assembled in
the Albion Park where the air still had a touch of coolness at 7:30am, this
was not to last! It was warming up rapidly as they started the 11 mile loop.
By the time the 5k started an hour later it was starting to cook out there.
The first 11milers returned minutes before the 5k leaders. The first runner,
Colin Okada, was misdirected by the helpful cop to finish in 1:14:40 with
Lance Gallager finishing along the correct route in 1:16:47. These two came
steaming in with Julie Morse Stump hot on their heels (1:17:39), no wonder
they were looking over their shoulders! Bob Morris was fourth home and the
over 40s winner in 1:19:50. Margaret Gates, looking as elegant as ever, won
the women’s masters division in 1:50:08 In the 5k Dave Smith (staying on course this year) finished in 19:03 with Albionian, Alan Thompson, a couple of minutes behind muttering about “young 40 year olds”. Alan insists that the run be after August 16th next year so he will be in a new age division! Marlowe was first woman of a certain age home in 27:44. Pete Schneller, also of Albion, ran his first 5k in 21:56 for the fastest under 40. Maria Zeigler being pulled by Badger the dog walked to victory in the women’s under 40 division. Pie and ice cream were enjoyed by all under the shade of the big trees on a day that may well reach a record high. Thanks to everyone for turning out and special thanks to all the wonderful volunteers. Return to PRR Home Page |
