Sequins and Sheep
February 2008

Gritman Medical Center put on its Red Dress to draw attention to heart disease, particularly among women. The Second Annual Red Dress Run took place in Moscow on February 23. In keeping with its fashion theme, the event started and finished at the Palouse Empire Mall. Sheep along the pastoral 5-K out-and-back route seemed nonplussed to see participants of both genders in spaghetti straps and sequins at 9:00 in the morning. Matt Silver even shaved his legs for the occasion. Sponsors included Rosauer’s, Northwest River Supplies, Marketime Drug, Idaho Ice, Best Western, Otto’s Produce, Northwest Respiratory & Medical Equipment, Bearable Dentistry, and Arbonne International. Living groups on the University of Idaho Campus provided volunteers. An estimated 75 people showed up and organizers reported nearly double the participants over the previous year. They aspire to attract even more next year, and judging by the smiles and enthusiasm among those who congregated in the mall afterward, they are likely to succeed. It’s not too soon to start shopping for those stylish red jogging togs!
