Bennett's run is named for a timber magnate who has a big house on East Palouse River Drive.  The route is mostly on paved roads.  It goes out east and comes back west, which makes it a good run on those winter days when there is a chilly breeze from Montana.  This is a great sunshine run except for the hottest days of summer.  There are nice views to the south from E. Palouse River Drive.

The run used to be called Short Sam's, to distinguish it from Long Sam's.  Nobody can remember why the name changed, or when anybody last ran Long Sam's, which is about nine miles.  Long Sam's required running back along the Troy highway, which is a dangerous game.  The fabulous new Latah Trail is now under construction, and this will provide a safe and pleasant return to Moscow.  When the Trail is paved, Long Sam's will no doubt be resurrected.
