Moscow Mountain Madness RUN

Runners at the start, 2004 Bikers after the start, 2004

The Moscow Mountain Madness Run began in 1978, when some 60 pioneering runners braved the MMM, and after a 4 year hiatus starting in the late 80's, the race was reinstated in 1992. After a few years of runners only, bikers were invited to participate, but the bike race was dropped in 2010. You need to be in good shape to participate. This is the toughest of the Palouse Road Runner events. The course is mostly dirt logging road & single track trails. It passes through beautiful timbered country, with occasional spectacular views over the Palouse.  Contact Race Director John Sweeney with questions or comments.

Read all about it in the Daily News! (2003 news article)

Course Description (2009, 2010)
The run course is a loop and will be very close to 12 miles in length.  It will start just downhill from the blue gate at the end of Foothill Road.  It will finish at Pond Nine which is about one half mile uphill from the start.  The run is entirely on single track trails and dirt logging roads.

The terrain is varied with most of the elevation gain in the first 4 miles.  The top end is rolling on lovely soft trails with very manageable – but very noticeable - inclines in both directions.

The running course starts up the bridges side of headwaters and climbs to its summit. Go briefly up southside; at the road angle left on velo trail up to ridge road. Climb ridge road past Paradise Point, then turn left for two crowns of triplecrown.  Turn right on ridge road (west) and runners return to velo trail and head to the finish via the bridges side of headwaters to the finish at Pond Nine.

The run course will be clearly marked.  Follow the signs and pay attention to any special instructions announced at the start.

Check out the MAMBA website for the mountain bike trail descriptions.
