Moscow Mountain Madness RUN/BIKE

The Moscow Mountain Madness Run began in 1978, when some 60 pioneering runners braved the MMM, and after a 4 year hiatus starting in the late 80's, the race was reinstated in 1992. After a few years of runners only, bikers were invited to participate. You need to be in good shape to participate. This is the toughest of the Palouse Road Runner events. The course is mostly dirt logging road & single track trails. It passes through beautiful timbered country, with occasional spectacular views over the Palouse.  Contact Race Director John Sweeney with questions or comments.

Course Description
T
he 2007 race course has been modified due to large rock on the downhill run into the Old Tamarack ski area. Mountain bikers may choose from two course options: intermediate or the advanced option. To avoid bikes and runners on narrow trails, all runners must take the 12 mile intermediate option.

The intermediate option will be 12 miles loop, with a mix of single track and dirt logging roads.  The intermediate course starts up the bridges side of headwaters.  At the top of headwaters it will turn up southside for a short distance before angling left up a connector towards the wagon road trail and continue to the ridge road.  Climb ridge road over Paradise Point and drop to the north for a single lop of triplecrown then back to the ridge road.  From there turn back West and descend entirely on ridge road back to the finish at Pond Nine.

The 16 mile advanced course will emphasize single track; it is recommended for experienced riders that are fit enough for grueling climbs and skilled enough for technical descents.

The advanced course will include many of your favorite MAMBA maintained trails.  It will also start up the bridges side of headwaters and ride to it's summit; turn right up southside then left up moosemarble and climb the nasty V to Paradise Point.  Cross ridge road to ride triplecrown and drop down north contour.  Ride shortly east on ridge road to upper tusk, loop back to the ridge road and bomb back to paradise point to descend the V, then switchblade and finally headwaters to the finish.
