Course Description (updated 8/21/08)
The 2008 race course has changed from last year. Mountain bikers may choose from two course options: the intermediate 11-mile option or advanced 18-mile option. To avoid bikes and runners on narrow trails, all runners must take the 11-mile option.

The advanced course will emphasize single track; it is recommended for experienced riders that are fit enough for grueling climbs and skilled enough for technical descents.

The advanced course will include many of your favorite MAMBA maintained trails. It will start up the bridges side of headwaters and ride to its summit; turn right up southside then left up moosemarbles and climb wagon trail to the ridge road; follow ridge road to ride two crowns of triplecrown; putting you back on ridge road allowing you to drop down north contour. Ride a short section eastward on ridge road to lower tusk, turn left down cave connector; at the meadow turn right and climb lickity split to get to up and over; follow ridge road west to upper tusk; take the ridge road and bomb back to Paradise Point to descend the deep V, then switchblade to southside and finally headwaters (boy scout side) to the finish.

The intermediate course will include a mix of single track and dirt logging roads. It is recommended for novice to intermediate level riders who can manage low speed single track (as in climbing) but prefer less technical descents.

The intermediate course will also start up the bridges side of headwaters and climb to its summit. Go briefly up southside; at the road angle left on velo trail up to ridge road. Climb ridge road past Paradise Point, then turn left for two crowns of triplecrown.  Turn right on ridge road (west) and bikers will descend entirely on ridge road back to the finish at Pond Nine. Runners will return to velo trail and head to the finish via the bridges side of headwaters to the finish at Pond Nine.

Check out the MAMBA website for the mountain bike trail descriptions.
