It was a beautiful
day for Palouse Road Runners' 26th annual Snake River Canyon
Half Marathon on Saturday, March 5. A record 217 runners
pre-registered for the 13.1 mile event and 69 more signed up on race
day for a total of 286 racers. Race director Brian Zabriskie
speculated that recent mild weather and sunshine the day of the race
brought out runners in near record numbers. Skies were clear with
temperatures in the 50s and a gentle breeze of 8 mph proved optimal
for the runners, volunteers, friends, and families who came to Wawawai
Canyon for the race.
Jane Hewitt of
Juliaetta won the Women’s Open division in a time of 1:23:10. Jill
Banister of Pendleton won the Women’s Masters division in 1:31:39.
Leif Kohler of
Pullman was first in the Men’s Open division, with a time of 1:12:34,
and Todd Parkey of Lewiston won the Men’s Masters division in 1:16:49.
Next year's Snake
River Canyon Half Marathon is scheduled for Saturday, March 4, 2006.
