Forty-one women and girls participated in Palouse Road Runners 13th annual Women’s Run/Walk/Roll on Sat. Oct.2. Mayor Marshall Comstock served as honorary starter for the 5-K event that started and finished at Moscow’s Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center. Skies were clear and temperatures were in the high 60s-low 70s by race time.

Katie Forsmann of Moscow was the overall winner, with a time of 19:22. Kim Garland Campbell of Moscow won the masters division in 24:38.

Mackenzie Connelly of Troy finished first among runners aged 14 and under, Mikayla Vergo of Pullman placed second, and Faith Shier of Pullman placed third. Connelly also won this division last year at age 7.

In the 20-29 division, Lindsay Schulz of Moscow was first (24:05), Moran Rosenthal of Moscow was second, and Betsy Nelson was third.

Esther Prins of Pullman won the 30-39 division in 19:46, Jodie Knox of Moscow was second, and Brendo Boyko of Viola was third.

Moscow’s Laurene Sorenson was first in the 40-49 division, in 26:22, KimberLee Kidwell of Pullman placed second, and Shari McEvoy of Garfield was third.

Margaret Gates of Moscow placed first among runners aged 50-59, Elisabeth Brackney of Moscow was seven seconds back in second, and Lauren Fins of Moscow was third. Jackie Rigg of Moscow won the 60+ division.

No one had a bigger smile than Rachel Rausch, who finished in the middle of the pack in her first-ever 5-K, after well over a year of preparation.” I ran every step of the way,” she said, beaming. Rausch credited veteran runner Lauren Fins with helping her finish by setting the pace and offering encouragement along the way.

Rosauer’s donated cases of fresh fruit for the event. Male members of Palouse Road Runners and Team DeMoura provided baked goods.
