Forty-one women and girls participated in
Palouse Road Runners 13th annual Women’s Run/Walk/Roll on Sat. Oct.2. Mayor
Marshall Comstock served as honorary starter for the 5-K event that started
and finished at Moscow’s Hamilton Indoor Recreation Center. Skies were clear
and temperatures were in the high 60s-low 70s by race time.
Katie Forsmann of Moscow was the overall
winner, with a time of 19:22. Kim Garland Campbell of Moscow won the masters
division in 24:38.
Mackenzie Connelly of Troy
finished first among runners aged 14 and under, Mikayla Vergo of Pullman placed second,
and Faith Shier of Pullman placed third.
Connelly also won this division last year at age 7.
In the 20-29 division, Lindsay Schulz of
Moscow was first (24:05), Moran Rosenthal of Moscow was second, and Betsy
Nelson was third.
Esther Prins of Pullman won the 30-39
division in 19:46, Jodie Knox of Moscow was second, and Brendo Boyko of
Viola was third.
Moscow’s Laurene Sorenson was first in the
40-49 division, in 26:22, KimberLee Kidwell of Pullman placed second, and
Shari McEvoy of Garfield was third.
Margaret Gates of Moscow placed first among
runners aged 50-59, Elisabeth Brackney of Moscow was seven seconds back in
second, and Lauren Fins of Moscow was third. Jackie Rigg of Moscow won the
60+ division.
No one had a bigger smile than Rachel Rausch,
who finished in the middle of the pack in her first-ever 5-K, after well
over a year of preparation.” I ran every step of the way,” she said,
beaming. Rausch credited veteran runner Lauren Fins with helping her finish
by setting the pace and offering encouragement along the way.
Rosauer’s donated cases of fresh fruit for
the event. Male members of Palouse Road Runners and Team DeMoura provided
baked goods.
